Steps from the finish line: Closing in on Phase 1 of construction at Fortify Home

We are steps away from finishing the first phase of construction! 

In December 2023, we were thrilled to announce that renovations were coming to Fortify Home. The renovations were spurred by a $600,000 grant from the Affordable Housing Program in partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis (FHLBI) and Community State Bank (CSB). We are proud to work and live alongside a community that cares about and for neighbors in need.

Phase 1: Completion Expected April 1

The renovations have been divided into phases, with phase 1 expected by April 1. With this, the available rooms will increase from 8 to 14, opening the door for 6 additional families to rebuild their lives. 2 of the new rooms will be fully ADA compliant.

One of the most exciting parts of the completion of phase 1 is the community room, which will allow for programming and shared time for our neighbors both inside and outside of the building. The space will be furnished in part thanks to furniture from Starbucks in Auburn. We will also have a beautiful community kitchen, a fun, interactive, and educational space for kids, and two new offices for case management.

Significant improvements are being made throughout the facility - both inside and out. Phase 1 has included:

• Improvements to electrical, HVAC, and fire suppression

• New windows & doors

• Better insulation

• New exterior painting and landscaping

• Technology updates for improved communication, energy efficiency, and building monitoring

  
  

Looking Ahead: Phase 2

Phase 2 will begin in April and is estimated to be completed as of July 2025. This phase will increase the total available rooms to 24! It will also add two offices and usher in the completion of exterior renovations.

Neighbor rooms have been designed to maximize the small space, including:

• Stacking beds

• Dressers with built-in desks

• Open storage

• Full-size refrigerators

• Additional wall storage

  
  

Community Programming

Community programming will begin in April, including cooking classes, financial literacy, CPR, as well as other topics. We are excited to offer a safe, dignified space for our neighbors experiencing homelessness to rebuild their lives within our supportive community. Even more, we are eager to invite you to our mission.
